Patient Dance

by Sultana Raza

As some huge orbs brood on the fate
of the destroyed planet
that was once so blue, peppered with vivid greens,
other stars change their paths, dancing together,
so the kismet of the vibrant planet is reordered.
But most gigantic spheres, millions of light-years away,
couldn't care less about the fact that
life has to begin anew on that foolish ellipsoid.

In a far corner of their minds, the providence stars
know they will have to restart their interlinked ballet
to restore the sunnier kismet of silly mortals
bent on lowering the frequency of their fertile spheroid.
Yet, they refuse to allow any nearby black holes
to conveniently swallow
the planet teeming with such a myriad of life-forms.

Marvelling at the slow pace of evolution
of the human mind/soul,
the massive globes simply shake their heads and move on.
Yet, a few of the smaller stars don't mind doing
the reverse destiny dance
every few hundred millennia or so.

The universe watches patiently.
When will these gullible mortals
learn to preserve their precious planet,
so the entire universe can make an evolutionary leap together?
