Dirty-Handed Graspings

Almost everything pristine is tainted
by the misuse of those who fondle it.
The delicate crystal and sterling
of things and acts we revere
smudged by the imperfect grasping
of hands dirtied in misadventure.
Yet better to clasp that good
with self-inflicted smears
than abandon it unblemished
and settle for plastic.
