by Richard Ong

Date taken: Monday, April 8, 2024
Time taken: 2:36 pm Eastern time to 3:13 pm
Location: Scarborough, Ontario

Camera Used: Canon PowerShot SX40 HS
Setting: Aperture-value mode allows for manual control of the aperture setting while the camera takes care of the shutter speed automatically.
F4.5; ISO 100; White Balance mode set for cloudy conditions

Magnification: up to 35x optical zoom.
Lens filter (58mm) used on the camera: Newer ND1000
Normally, to protect the camera electronics and my eyes, I’d use ND100000, but the cloudy conditions in Toronto required the use of a weaker filter to get a clear shot.

“ND” or Neutral Density filters are commonly used in landscape photography because it reduces equally the intensity of all wavelengths (colours) of light. The sun generates the sum total of all wavelengths of light = white light, hence its resulting colour in the shots.
