Bewildering Stories welcomes...
Laurie Seidler
Well, California is sort of halfway between New York and Australia. And Laurie has made all three places her home. Formerly a wire service reporter and editor based in Sydney, she now lives in San Jose and has turned to writing fiction.
She’s also had notable success in publishing. No one will be surprised at that after “Miracle Baby,” her first contribution to Bewildering Stories. In that story, Laurie gives us a model of what might be called the “deft touch.” With relatively few words she puts four characters on stage while alluding to a fifth even as she suggests a far larger story in the background.
Best of all, perhaps, at a time when horror seems to be the realism of the day, Laurie stands the horror genre on its head and stuffs it down a well — gently, but with firm irony.
Like our publisher and mainstay reviewer, Jerry Wright, Laurie is a speed reader. That’s no surprise, considering her professional background. Now, if we can just inveigle her into writing some reviews for us as well as stories...
Welcome to Bewildering Stories, Laurie. We hope to hear from you again soon and often!
