Because My Mouth
by Marta T. Coppola
Don’t think that
because my mouth forms the shape
of awe that I am wondrous.
I am vacuous.
I stare myself down in enemy
territory, crouching, braced,
acid guns pointed at myself.
I said
to myself as there was
none other than
Your blood has the power to
fire, breathe,
trigger, muzzle, cocked
I was blown away
because my mouth only formed
the shape of awe.
