Bewildering Stories welcomes...
Stephen J. McKenzie
Stephen is from Adelaide, South Australia. He has an advanced degree on medieval travel writing and has put it to good use with his interest in folklore and his preferred genre, fantasy. He has revitalized Scotts Gaelic folklore in retellings and adaptations that now number two volumes.
“The Green Woman of Kittlerumpit” is an elaborate variation of the widely known Rumpelstiltskin story. It belongs to the genre of changeling legends, where a baby is kidnapped and another, usually evil and often of supernatural origin, is left in its place. The theme seems to be common at least among the Celts: the malevolent korrigans of Breton folklore are known in song and story for stealing human children and exchanging them for ones of their own.
