Bewildering Stories welcomes...
Victoria Elliott
Victoria is a former English teacher and now works as a researcher in education. She’s an avid reader and writer. She finds inspiration in a museum in Oxford, but the displays she prefers may seem somewhat unusual...
“The Luck of Mikhail Samsonovich” is distinguished by its style as a modern fairy tale. The leader of the oil-drilling crew is unusual: Samsonovich is no run-of-the-mill oligarch or ecological despoiler, quite the contrary; his ambitions are modest. He makes the traditional Faustian bargain and gets rich. Will he be sorry? Well... maybe. He’ll have to wait and see.
In any event, Mikhail might be surprised to learn he has something in common with Cyrano de Bergerac, who had heard his story before, although in a slightly different form.
