R is for Rocket, S is for Space:
Ray Bradbury

by John Stocks

You would show me
The random beauty of distant planets
At moonbreak, exploding with the stars,
Demonstrate the wizardly conundrums
Of fluctuating space and infinite flight.

I would be gloriously bewildered
By the subtle paradoxes
Of time’s twisted arrow,
The lightness of persistent memory
And the power of a butterfly’s wing.

At ten you tweaked my dreams,
Gave reality a subtle shake
Set my mind for a lifetime’s roaming.

And when Miss Wallace asked
What would become of me,
I said: ‘Miss, an Astronaut’.
