Bewildering Stories welcomes...
Natalie Lang
Natalie lives in Vancouver, B.C. and works with students who have learning differences in reading and writing. Natalie has a degree in literature and has taken many creative writing courses. Her fondest ambition: to write a great novel.
“From the Beginning,” Natallie says, is a true memoir. Its voice certainly has a ring of authenticity, and many readers will surely find that the young girl’s experience resonates with their own.
The story “From the Beginning” depicts is comic: no one is seriously hurt beyond disillusionment and disappointment. And the tensions and dilemmas of young adulthood are neatly portrayed. The young people are not yet old enough to throw a party on their own, but they are old enough to take responsibility for the mess it makes.
Is it understandable that Adam wants to avoid meeting the girl’s mother? Very much so; he’s not yet old enough to handle such an awkward situation. His attempting to hide in a dollhouse will be funny to the readers, but it is not the least bit funny to the girl, who has to face her mother alone.
