Bewildering Stories welcomes...
Afzal Moolla
Afzal lives in Johanesburg, South Africa. He appreciates good literature, be it in prose or in verse.
“The Markets Are Down” is a brief lament about the decline of various “markets” in human values: political, religious, and cultural. The sardonic final line says that the only “market” that isn't “down” — despite its normal fluctuations — is the financial market. And so it goes in today’s world: speech may be free, but money talks.
