Bewildering Stories welcomes...
Nina Pratt
Nina used to live in New York City but now lives in Rhode Island. She used to write non-fiction professionally but has since turned to fiction, with considerable success.
“The Dead Artist” is a truly Bewildering Story in the sense that it is thought-provoking and is bound to raise questions. For example: is there really an artist’s corpse under Bo’s and Max’s apartment floor? Possibly, but one could just as easily say it’s Bo’s hallucination.
Does the presence of the artist bring out the latent heterosexual in Bo? Possibly, but is that really relevant? Change Bo and Max to robots or androids. Bo discovers a hologram of her and Max’s designer in the apartment and realizes that her model is supposed to have initiative and a purpose of its own rather than be helplessly submissive to the Max model. Does the Bo android fall in love with the designer’s hologram? Whatever. The main thing is she takes his point.
