Fairy Roulette

by Robert Shmigelsky

Random concoctions
Brewed and hidden by
Ill-behaved little pixies

Cheers to gaining a giant’s strength
Or obtaining weakness and weariness

A wise man’s wisdom
Or the repeat blunders of a fool

The cure for every old ache
Or a nasty spider bite

Handsomeness or beauty
Ugliness and despair
A toast
‘The return to youth and your good health’
Or ‘the frailties of immediate old age’

In any case
if you chance upon an unlabeled bottle
After deciding to explore the countryside alone
Just know if you decide to take a taste
What goes down — whether you be man or child —
Is a game of just plain, darn luck.
