Bewildering Stories welcomes...
Dan Rice
Dan is an avid photographer and enjoys writing science fiction and fantasy. He manages a photoblog and a website with his personal bibliography.
“The Future of Our Prosperity” falls into the category of dystopian speculation, but only barely. It can also be seen as social science fiction in the mode of “if this goes on.” And that mode is time-honored: it recalls the precedent of Sinclair Lewis’s cautionary novel from 1935: It Can’t Happen Here.
Dan’s story is all the more plausible for its cautious approach. It does not presume a change in the form of government in the USA, only the official implementation of attitudes held by a certain part of the populace. Precedents abound in both the U.S. and other countries.
The story is complete on line as of the first instalment. Just follow the “Proceed” links or use the Table of Contents.
