Bewildering Stories welcomes...
Vanessa Kittle
Vanessa lives with her partner in New York. She edits a poetry journal and has published two collections of her own works. She has also published widely.
“The Shining World” will intrigue readers with the plight of Jax, who is a “forgo,” a former organic being — i.e. a human — who has been incorporated into “the shining world,” which is managed by artificial intelligences.
Jax’s life will puzzle readers at first, because it seems remarkably similar to the increasingly automated working world of the early 21st-century post-industrial economy. But the ending takes a sinister turn, one that seems to echo an accidental companion piece in this same issue: Robin Helweg-Larsen’s “Humankind at Dusk.” Are Vanessa and Robin trying to tell us something?
