Mark is an old e-friend who lives in one of America’s great university cities: Madison, Wisconsin, where I was quite at home, myself, many years ago. We met when he contacted me about a review on Amazon.com. We soon discovered many interests in common: I admire history, while Mark is a fully credentialed historian. I admire fresh new ideas, and Mark keeps coming up with them as though they actively pursue him.
I’ve been coaxing Mark for some time to send us reviews and editorials. We’ve been very fortunate: his review of Heinlein’s For Us, the Living appears in this issue, and his reviews of Heinlein’s Between Planets and Starman Jones appeared in issue 46. His very provocative question about the use of the near side of the Moon appears in this issue, and a query about free and scarce goods in science fiction appeared in issue 83. Our next issue will feature yet another interesting idea of his on another topic.
Since Mark is an authority on generation ships in science fiction, he may be interested in Tala Bar’s Gaia, which gets under way in this issue. And we’d love to publish an article from him on the subject!
Welcome to Bewildering Stories, Mark. We dote on fresh, new, interesting ideas, and we hope our readers will send us their thoughts to complement yours!
