“Scrabble Goes to the Vet” will intrigue readers by its depiction of John, who knows nothing about cats. He is befriended by a stray, He soon falls in love with it and names it “Scrabble.” John is concerned about the cat’s mysterious excrescenses and takes her to a veterinarian. Not to “spoil” the plot or anything, but the story is a cautionary tale. If you’re going to fall in love with a cat, first make sure that it isn’t a Gorgon.
