Death Can Be So Inconvenient
by Bill Bowler
Death can be so inconvenient.
I was on my way
the other day to a party
when I got the call.
Can you believe it?
I was startled.
Sorry. No, today’s not good.
Tomorrow evening
doesn’t work. I’m really busy.
Changing plans would not be easy.
I don’t want to anyway;
my calendar’s completely full.
If no one minds,
can’t we put this off until
some other time?
I can’t just drop
everything. This is not
the time to stop.
Not now. I have too much to do.
I’m sure that you
can understand and
maybe feel the same way, too.
It can’t end now.
What’s the big deal anyhow?
Let’s wait a bit.
We’ll deal with it
when there’s more
time to properly prepare
for what’s in store.
I want to have more fun.
This can’t be how it ends.
Too much depends
on what’s not done.
Let’s not worry.
What’s the hurry?
Take your time. There’s no rush.
Ashes to ashes, dust to dust.
