Filling Up Silence

by Brenda Mox

When talkers rise above thinkers,
inane falsehoods are preferred,
filling up silence with blather
as lipsticks wink like gossip.

Talkers rush to trample every pause,
unable to resist
sirens’ songs of tattle
damaging indiscretions
by rumor-running chattel.
